Power Supply Cooling

These power supplies can be cooled using one of three methods.

Conduction cooling:

The power supply is mounted on to an aluminium plate, or the inside of a cabinet, with the minimum surface area as specified in the data sheet. This method of cooling takes full advantage of the fanless design as no moving parts are necessary for cooling.

Water Cooling:

If space is not available for conduction cooling, then you can opt for water cooling. MEAN WELL offers a water cooling plate (part number HS-656), on which the high voltage power supply can be mounted. Water needs to be passed through the plate at a rate of 1 litre per minute.

Fan cooling:

Fan cooling can also be achieved using 2 * 126 CFM fans.

Semi Potted Design

The PHP series high voltage power supplies have a semi potted design. This offers good vibration resistance up to 2G and protects critical components from minor exposure to dust and moisture. It is recommended that the power supply still be protected from dust and moisture ingress.

Slimline Design

These new power supplies are only 60mm high, which can assist OEMs who need to reduce the size of their finished products. It is also an advantage to installers working with limited space availability.

Adjustment of Output Current and Voltage

There are three methods of adjusting the output voltage or output current.

If you need to make a one-off adjustment to the output voltage, say to compensate for voltage drop, then you can use the built-in potentiometer.

Dynamic adjustments to the output voltage or output current can be made by either applying an external voltage signal or using the PMBus or CANBus digital communication interface. The PHP series power supplies come with PMBus as standard, CANBus is available on request.

When using either method the adjustment ranges are as follows:

  • Current: 20~100% of maximum current rating.
  • Voltage: 50~120% of default voltage output.

It should be noted that the current and voltage will vary in relation to each other when adjustments are made.

Warranty and Further Information

The PHP series power supplies come with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. Product data sheets can be downloaded from the ADM website. Click on the following link to navigate to the relevant product page:
