MEAN WELL rack mount power supplies are based on a modular design.

1U low profile racks are available that will accommodate either 3, or 5 power supply units. The power supply units themselves all have a current sharing feature so that they can be connected in parallel.

All MEAN WELL’s rack mount power supplies are ‘hot-swappable’, so you don’t need to power down to swap out a power supply that may have failed and all models have a remote ON/OFF function. This makes them highly desirable for use in data centres.

The DRP-3200 series programmable rack mount power supplies are the latest to be added to the MEAN WELL range.

The DRP-3200 features a, I2C and supports the PMBus protocol. CANBus protocol support is available as an option. This means the DRP-3200 can easily be integrated into higher-level control systems.

As with the RCP-1600, both the output current and output voltages are programmable.

Power Supply Unit

Manual VDC Adjust Range

Remote VDC Adjust Range

Remote Current Adjust Range

DRP-3200-24

23.5 ~ 30V

50~125% of the nominal voltage 20~100% of the rated current

DRP-3200-48

47.5 ~ 58.8V

Again, there are built-in alarm signals to indicate the status of the DC output and to flag if the temperature of the unit exceeds 60°C.

The rack is ordered as a separate item under part number DHP-1UT and holds up to 4 units.

The DRP-3200 features MEAN WELL’s current sharing function, which means one rack can deliver up to 12,800 Watts. In fact, a total of 8 units can be connected in parallel to deliver a total of 25,600 Watts!

1U LOW PROFILE HIGH-DENSITY RACK MOUNT POWER SUPPLY

The MEAN WELL DRP-3200 series rack mount power supplies are perfect if you are looking for a 1U low-profile rack mount power supply with a high-power density.

The MEAN WELL DHP-1UT mounting rack is ordered separately and can accommodate up to 4 DRP-3200 front-end rectifiers. All 4 rectifiers can be connected in parallel to deliver up to 12,800 WATTS of power, depending on the actual front-end rectifiers used.

MEAN WELL DHP-1UT

The slimline 1U low profile and high power density are not the only remarkable features of these power supplies.

The power supplies are highly efficient, with an efficiency rating of up to 94.5%.

The front-end rectifiers are also hot-swappable, so you don’t have to power the system down in the unlikely event of having to swap a unit over.

As standard the DRP-3200-24 and DRP-3200-48 support the PMBus communications protocol, CANBus support is optional. This can be used to monitor the status of the power supply and to also trim the output current and, or voltage.

The output current and voltage can also be trimmed by applying an analogue voltage signal. This means these power supplies are compatible with many PLCs and other types of system controllers used in industrial and process automation applications.

The power supplies can also be switched on and off remotely. A 5V / 0.3A auxiliary output is available to maintain the controller in standby mode until it is required again to reactivate the power supply.

There is also an alarm signal output for remote monitoring of the status of the power supply.

Rack Mount Power Supplies for Data Centres

MEAN WELL’S range of rack mount power supplies boasts a range of useful features, which makes them ideal for use in data centres.

When selecting a rack mount power supply for use in a data centre you want both reliability and functionality that can forewarn you of any problems that could result in a server going down.

MEAN WELL rack mount power supply is based on a modular design.

1U low profile racks are available that will accommodate either 3, or 5 power supply units. The power supply units themselves all have a current sharing feature so that they can be connected in parallel.

All of MEAN WELL’s rack mount power supplies are ‘hot-swappable’, so you don’t need to power down to swap out a power supply that may have failed and all models have a remote ON/OFF function. This makes them highly desirable for use in data centres.

There are also a number of other features available on various different models.

With the RCP-1000 series, the output voltage can also be trimmed remotely. There are three different voltage output options available:

Model

Power Output

MEAN WELL RCP-1000-12

12V / 60A

MEAN WELL RCP-1000-24

24V / 40A

MEAN WELL RCP 1000-48

48V / 21A

The 1U low-profile rack is available as a separate item under part number RCP-1U.

MEAN WELL RCP-1U
MEAN WELL RCP-1U Low Profile Rack

Each rack can hold up to 3 MEAN WELL RCP-1000 rack mount power supplies. Using the current sharing function, you can connect these up in parallel to deliver up to 3000 Watts of power.

The RCP-1000 power supply units have a 5V / 0.3A auxiliary power output, which is very useful for powering cooling fans. As we know, servers do not like running hot, so this is a very useful feature for a power supply that is to be used in a data centre.

There are also two output alarm signals. One for DC OK and one for AC OK. These can be used to give a warning of a failure on either the AC or DC side.

The output voltage can be trimmed manually. The following table shows the adjustment range, depending on the output voltage of the power supply unit:

Power Supply Unit

Voltage Adjust Range (Manual)

Voltage Adjustment Range (Remote)

RCP-1000-12

11.6 ~ 12.4V

90 ~ 110% of nominal output voltage

RCP-1000-24

23.2 ~ 24.8V

RCP-1000-48

46.3 ~ 49.7V

Remote control of the voltage output is achieved by applying external resistance across the appropriate control terminals on the power supply.  This can be applied through the RCP-MU remote control and monitoring unit.

MEAN WELL RCP-MU
MEAN WELL RCP-MU Remote Control and Monitoring Unit

This remote control enables you to monitor the output voltage of the power supplies, the current draw and temperature level. Alarm signals can be set to warn of a power supply operating outside of expected parameters, giving an early indication that something could be wrong.

MEAN WELL was established in 1982 by Mr Jerry Lim, who still heads up the company today. In 1986 MEAN WELL started to produce a range of standard switch mode power supplies. The core philosophy of the company is to design and manufacture power supplies, which are highly reliable and very affordable.
