We take a look at some of the most common railway applications for inverters in Australia, and look at some of the models that could be used in each instance.

Railway Inverters for HVAC Applications

One aspect of refurbishing passenger trains is the upgrade of the on-board HVAC system.

The ODX-3000 series high power 3 phase inverters deliver a true sine wave output, high power density, and are suitable for harsh environment conditions, whilst at the same time optimising efficiency. 

The ODX-3000 series deliver up to 3000W at 230Vac and 400Vac. A wide variety of input-output combinations are possible without compromising performance, with up to 92% efficiency.  

If there is no suitable option within the standard range, it is possible for a customised solution to be offered. 

They have been designed for chassis mounting and a rackmount kit is also available.  

The input and output are galvanically isolated and the status of the input and output voltages can be monitored through the contacts of two separate solid-state relays.  

The ODX-3000 series inverters feature maximum average power protection as well as maximum output peak current protection. There is also a disable function for input undervoltage, which protects batteries from harmful discharges. 

Parameters can be set and monitored via RS232 through the PAM Tool available with all models. The ODX-3000 series inverters are available with EN50155 and EN45545-2 approvals. 

Inverters for Onboard Passenger AC Sockets

Premium Power's ODS series inverters are the perfect solution for providing AC power points on board trains and trams. 

There are three series in the range, depending on the power output required. All are EN50155 and EN45545-2 approved:
