Using MEAN WELL Power Supplies with Current Sharing Function

MEAN WELL POWER SUPPLIES WITH CURRENT SHARING FUNCTION

You can connect any two MEAN WELL power supplies in parallel, so long as they have MEAN WELL’s current sharing function.

We have had customers suggest that any two power supplies can be connected in parallel, so long as two diodes are used to isolate them.

This is not true. This will give you redundancy. In other words, if one power supply fails then the other will take over the load. But it will not allow the power supplies to share the load.

The product data sheets show how two power supplies with the current sharing function should be connected.

The wiring diagram below has been taken from the RST-10000’s data sheet. Please refer to the data sheet for the actual power supply you wish to use.

Current sharing is usually found on larger MEAN WELL power supplies. It is not featured on the smaller models as the best solution to provide more power is to use a larger power supply.

The following series of power supplies feature the current sharing function.
