The Benefits of Magnetic AC Transformer Thermal Regulation in Outdoor Signage Installations

When providing power supplies for outdoor illuminated signage, particularly those subject to direct sunlight or extreme summer heat, consideration must be given to heat management and the potential for component degradation.

Prolonged heat exposure can significantly shorten the lifetime of electrolytic capacitors in LED Drivers by drying them out. This typically occurs during the day, when the internal housing can reach 60°C or more in direct sunlight, causing the liquid electrolyte to evaporate. This process isn’t an immediate problem, but it can occur over time and lead to a complete power failure.

To avoid this, installers can consider installing an AC transformer to provide power in these conditions, given its heat tolerance. The TX series AC transformers from Power Source are Class B electrically insulated power supplies, with an operating temperature rated up to 130°C.

The TX series' physical core bulk provides heat resistance during offline hours. The iron core would tolerate a significant amount of ambient heat before being affected. In addition to being Class B electrically insulated, the TX series undergoes varnish impregnation, further improving thermal regulation.
