Custom-Made Power Adaptor for a Body Scanner 

Wearing clothes that fit properly is one of the most common challenges for shoppers everywhere, and our customer aimed to address this with a body scanning technology powered by a bespoke adapter designed and assembled by the ADM Team.   

ADM Custom Solutions: MEAN WELL and Harting Power Adapter    

An Australian company with operations in 30 regions globally helps retailers provide the right clothing size for their customers using a non-intrusive 3D body scanning device. 

For fashion and apparel retailers, 3D body scanning can provide accurate size recommendations by mapping a customer’s measurements against a brand’s clothing range. This can help improve fit, reduce size-related returns, and support made-to-order clothing. For uniform providers, the technology can also streamline workforce fittings and help automate the sizing and ordering process. 

The scanning device, however, requires a custom-made power adapter with a connector, which is not a standard issue. 

When an off-the-shelf power supply does not meet a device’s specific connection requirements, a custom assembly can provide a practical solution without having to redesign the entire system, which significantly reduces costs and downtime.  

For our customer, ADM developed a modified MEAN WELL GST360A24 power supply with a Harting connector to suit the connection requirements of the body scanning technology. This allows our customer to connect its device using a different connector from the standard six-pin connection supplied with the GST360A24.   

The assembly also included modifications enabling the shielding on the connector to be connected to the neutral of the power supply to meet the application requirements.
