ADM Provides Custom Sensor Gateway Assembly and Testing

ADM Custom Assembly and Testing

The ADM Team embarks on a custom project involving the assembly and testing of sensor gateway units for an Australian proptech (property technology) and workplace analytics company.

The gateway units are designed for building and people-location monitoring applications where systems use interconnected sensors to anonymously track room occupancy, area traffic, security, and emergency response, including people’s locations during an evacuation.

If you have a similar project requiring specialised assembly and testing, please contact us. We’d be happy to help!

Sensor Gateway Hardware and Power Integration

ADM supplied all the components of the sensor gateway, except for the switch, which is proprietary to our customer.

Each device consists of a sensor networking module mounted on a heatsink base, with a MEAN WELL HEP-320-54A power supply installed underneath to provide operating power. The assembly also incorporates an IEC power inlet and the required input/output connections.

Each gateway can power and connect up to 30 sensors. Individual sensors support daisy-chain connectivity in groups of up to six, allowing the network to be extended to as many as 90 sensors per floor over distances of up to 150 metres.

An alternative Power over Ethernet (PoE) connection is also supported for direct sensor connectivity, although this configuration does not support daisy-chaining.

ADM Conducts Electrical and Data Performance Testing

Following assembly, each gateway undergoes functional testing using dedicated test equipment.

The testing setup connects to three gateways simultaneously and checks the voltage supplied to each port, along with data throughput levels. This process verifies key electrical and communication parameters before the completed units are delivered, to ensure reliability.

ADM’s Assembly and Integration Scope

The project involves the physical integration of supplied electronic components, industrial power supplies, heatsink mounting, input/output wiring, and functional testing.

By combining power integration, hardware assembly, and electrical testing, the completed gateway units are prepared for incorporation into various building sensor networks.
