MEAN WELL NPB Battery Chargers – Is your Battery Charger setup for charging under load?

The MEAN WELL NPB range of smart battery chargers is an incredibly useful range of battery chargers. Expanding upon their predecessor model, the PB charger, the NPB has been developed to support the charging needs of a range of battery types, including lead acid and lithium-ion batteries, expanding the charger's capability to encompass two and three-stage charging.

When purchasing an NPB charger, it pays to be explicit with the intended charging application, as this will determine how your NPB battery charger is set up to be programmed. Information such as battery type, frequency of use and intended application is all helpful information to ensure your NPB charger is set up appropriately, which the team at ADM are happy to do free of charge.

Why is this important?

Different batteries and different applications have different charging requirements.

In one instance, a customer had been using a 3-stage charger setting for a boat battery underload, providing electricity to onboard electronics. With the battery under load, the charger had determined the battery needed to be in the ‘boost’ stage of charging, leading to overheating and destroying the battery.

When purchasing a battery charger, the ADM team will ask about your intended application for charging and program the charger accordingly.
