Magnetic Transformers for High-Reliability Projects – Power Source TX Series AC Transformers
Determining whether a magnetic transformer or an electronic converter is best for your intended application often factors in cost, durability, and reliability. In the instance of our Power Source TX series AC transformers, you get the benefit of all three.

Magnetic transformers aren’t designed to be high-tech; they are just passive, robust devices with no switching transistors or oscillators, operating on the basic principle of electromagnetic induction through a copper winding around a laminated steel core.
Magnetic transformers aren’t limited by thermal runaway or junction breakdown in the same way as electronic converters, and subsequently can tolerate instances of over-voltage better, making them ideal as ‘first line of defence’ in power cabinets for control electronics.
Due to the transformer's physical makeup, voltage transients and harmonics have difficulty passing through an AC transformer. The steel (or iron) core requires time to magnetise and demagnetise (around 50Hz), and subsequently, high-frequency noise and rapid spikes are smoothed out before they can pass through.
Given the design of an AC transformer, there is no physical pathway connecting the two windings, creating an air gap and galvanic isolation between the two sides. Galvanic isolation is a safety feature that ensures that, in the event of a lightning strike or a direct short that causes the magnetic field to fail, there is no physical connection for that power to fry your mission-critical electronics.
If you’re looking to integrate an AC transformer into your product design or need a safe way to convert mains power in your cabinet from 415VAC down to 110VAC or 240VAC or down to 24VAC or 12VAC, our Power Source TX series is an ideal solution.
This range comes in two series: the 240VAC input range and the 415VAC input range, with DIN rail mount options available for the former.
